As part of their commitment to education, and to celebrate teachers in the Renton School District, each month members of Rotary Club of Renton selects a few teachers as Teacher of the Month.

As part of their commitment to education, and to celebrate teachers in the Renton School District, each month members of Rotary Club of Renton selects a few teachers as Teacher of the Month.

October’s Teachers of the Month are:

Julie Schroeder
Fifth grade Discovery teacher at Hazelwood Elementary

Julie Schroeder began her college experience at Oklahoma State University then continued at Phillip’s University in Enid, Oklahoma where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She continued her education at East Texas State University to earn a master’s degree in early childhood education. Schroeder has worked in education for nearly 30 years with experience in almost all elementary grade levels. Schroeder has been teaching in Renton for about 20 years.

Natasha Brandon
K-2 Instructional Learning Center teacher at Cascade Elementary School

Natasha Brandon attended the University of Redlands, in Redland, Calif. where she earned a B.A. in sociology and anthropology. She continued her education at Lesley University where she earned a master’s in elementary education and special education. She began her teaching experience in the Friendship Public Charter School District in Washington, D.C., where she taught preschool through fourth grade for three years. She is back in her hometown and proud to be beginning her second year with the Renton School District.

Sarah Menaul
Language arts teacher at Hazen High School

Sarah Menaul earned a B.A. degree in English and French from the University of Pennsylvania. She also attended the University of Oregon where she received a M.A. in journalism and attended the University of Washington to earn a master’s in teaching. Before becoming a teacher, Sarah worked as a copy editor, research editor and writer for Seattle Magazine for three years. She is now in her ninth year as a teacher in the Renton School District.

 

As part of the recognition, teachers attend Rotary’s Teacher of the Month recognition luncheon at the Maplewood Golf Course.

Each teacher is introduced, makes a brief comment about the school and classroom, and receives $200 to be used for classroom supplies or instructional materials.
