No one hurt in two-alarm Skyway house fire

No one was injured in a two-alarm house fire at about 7:45 a.m. Monday in the 12600 64th Avenue South, according to the King County Fire District 20.

Firefighters arrived to find the two-story home with heavy black smoke and flames coming from the backside of the resident, according to district spokesman, Dave Nelson.

Firefighters were able to make a quick attack to the deck; however fire had already spread into the residence, according to Nelson.

A second alarm was called, bringing additional units from Renton, Tukwila, Seatac and King County Medic One.

According to the residents, a family member began to cook two pots of beans on an outside propane, two-burner stove around 6:30 a.m., Nelson reporter. Another family member heard an explosion just before 7:43 a.m. The family member looked outside the window to see fire coming from the deck, according to Nelson.

All residents were able to get out of the residences before firefighters arrived. The King County Arson and Fire Investigation Unit is working at the scene to determine the official cause of the fire.

Early damage estimates determined $200,000 to building and contents in the fire home and $40,000 to the next-door neighbor’s home which suffered heat damage to the side of the house, according to Nelson.

The Seattle chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family with finding a place to live, food and clothing. There were no injuries to firefighters or residents while fighting the fire.
