The YMCA of Greater Seattle will break ground on two new facilities this fall, the Coal Creek YMCA in Newcastle and the Highline YMCA in SeaTac.

The new YMCAs are part of the largest capital campaign in the organization’s history. Fundraising recently surpassed 85 percent of the $40 million total goal.

As part of the campaign, the YMCA is building three new facilities in fast-growing parts of the Puget Sound region. The first new facility of the campaign, the Dale Turner Family YMCA in Shoreline, is scheduled to open in October, and together the three new YMCAs will bring programs and activities to 50,000 additional children, teens and adults each year.

Each new state-of-the-art YMCA averages 50,000 square feet and includes a fully accessible swimming pool, gym, teaching kitchen, teen center, community meeting spaces and health and wellness facilities for those of all ages, interests and abilities. The Coal Creek YMCA in Newcastle will serve north Renton, south Bellevue, southeastIssaquah, Newcastle and Mercer Island. Groundbreaking is Sept. 9, with an opening in fall 2009.
