With summer travel – and summer construction projects – just around the corner, WSDOT is reminding drivers to be prepared for traffic congestion, especially on holidays and weekends.
Summer is often the only time WSDOT can do projects like paving and striping that require dry weather, so there are a number of projects drivers will encounter during their summer travels. Work will take place on various spots on I-90 this summer and I-5 also will see a series of weekend closures as pavement is resurfaced.
Eastbound I-90 will be reduced from three to two lanes for a one-mile stretch at milepost 47 on Snoqualmie Pass in a construction site. The lane reduction is needed for work beginning immediately after the Memorial Day holiday weekend and could cause delays, particularly on Friday.
Slow down and pay extra attention in work zones, both for the safety of workers and fellow motorists.
In addition, remember to do your part in helping keeping our state beautiful by securing loads and not littering. More than 12 million pounds of trash are cleared off of Washington roads each year – more than WSDOT can clean up on our own.
It’s always good to “know before you go” on any long trips. WSDOT has several tools to help plan your summer travel:
