A 20-year-old Lynnwood man was pistol-whipped with a revolver in a parking lot on Garden Avenue North Aug. 29, where he planned to show another man his bag full of medical marijuana.
Inside an ambulance, the man told officers he had a prescription for the marijuana and had purchased it at a legal dispensary, although he wouldn’t say where. He wouldn’t provide any information about the man he was meeting.
He said he wasn’t planning to sell the marijuana, but he just wanted to show the man it was high quality.
During the meet, several men got into the vehicle, where the man was assaulted. A witness saw the assault and the struggle over the bag of marijuan. Marijuana was scattered on the parking lot.
The witness honked at the men. They drove off in a Jeep and the witness called 911.
The man told officers he would drive himself to get medical treatment.
He wouldn’t say how much marijuana was stolen, but police estimate that he was robbed of several pounds of marijuana.
‘Grandparent Scam’ claims a victim
A Renton grandfather got a phone call from his “grandson” Sept. 3, who told him he was in jail and needed $2,160 for bail.
The caller told the victim he would soon get another phone call from a bail-bond company in Baltimore, Md. The call came and he wired the money via Western Union.
A couple hours later, a call came from the same company, asking for more money. This time they would pick up the money at his home.
The 84-year-old victim became suspicious and called police. He had confirmed that his grandson wasn’t in jail.
Conflicting stories on bus takedown
Officers couldn’t make an arrest Sept. 3 because of conflicting stories and lack of independent witnesses to an apparent verbal harassment and assault on and off a Metro bus on Rainier Avenue.
However, one of the three suspects was arrested on a felony warrant.
Police had received a call from a woman that her jewelry had been stolen by three men.
The victim, a 35-year Renton woman, told officers she got into a pushing match that one of the men initiated and who tackled her “football style.” During the interview, she was “verbally aggressive” to the men and called them derogatory names.
Officers placed the Tukwila man in cuffs. He told officers he had waved at the woman because she was staring at him on the bus. She yelled at him and she bumped into him when they got off the bus. She tried to spit at him but her mouth was dry. She charged him, he said, and he took her to the ground.
He then walked off with two others to a nearby fast-food restaurant.
Car prowl nets $8,000 in cash
About $8,000 in cash was stolen Sept. 4 from a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Maple Avenue Southwest where the victim was visiting his mother.
After breaking a window, the thief took three briefcases, including one that contained the cash.
Also stolen were electronic gear, personal documents and checks.
The victim told officers that he travels a lot, so he needs the cash to get home at anytime.
Walmart guard punched by scammer
A man, possibly from Auburn, punched a Walmart security officer in the chest Sept. 5 after he consumed Mike and Ike without paying for the candy and fraudulently returned a tire iron and spray paint.
The man ate the 98-cent Mike and Ike candy while he waited to pay for several items. At the same time, he returned the tire iron and spray paint, worth $23.59, he had picked up in the store on Rainier Avenue.
The security officer attempted to detain the man as he walked from the store but he resisted and punched the officer twice in the chest. The officer let go and the suspect fled in a gray Hyundai Accent
The car was traced to its registered owner in Auburn, whose son matches the suspect’s description. The security officer was to be shown his picture.
Teens caught tagging school
Two juveniles were detained by the night custodian Sept. 4 after graffiti, including an obscenity, was spray-painted on Maplewood Heights Elementary School.
The custodian heard hissing sounds, apparently the spray can, as he checked the school. The two teens ran but the custodian caught up with them as they tried to get into a car. They apparently had locked themselves out, although there was another teen inside.
The obscenity was sprayed in 2-foot-high letters. There were two orange tags, “Khaos” and “NSK.”
Parents, who live in Seattle, were contacted and officers were told to send the three youths home. The two youths face a charge of malicious mischief.
Shoplifting for fiance, not drugs this time
A Federal Way man who told officers he needed money for his ailing fiancé was arrested for shoplifting Aug. 28 at Walmart on Rainier Avenue.
The man used magnets to disable the security strips on the $750 worth of merchandise.
He admitted to taking the merchandise but pointed out he used to shoplift to support his drug habit.
He has warrants for theft in Tacoma and Auburn. He was booked into SCORE regional jail for investigation of third-degree theft.
Man taken for mental evaluation punches medical tech
A medical technician was hit near his right temple Aug. 21 by a jail inmate who had been transported to Valley Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
The 33-year-old Seattle man had also assaulted a nurse at the jail and refused to take his medications.
His restraints were removed so he could use the restroom. He assaulted the technician returning to his room. Other hospital staff responded to place the man in restraints. The case was referred to detectives for investigation of third-degree assault.
