Tips from the public helped lead to the arrest Friday morning of a 44-year-old Seattle man whom investigators suspect pushed a woman into Martin Luther King Jr. Way Monday evening, where she was hit by an SUV.

The Renton Reporter does not name suspects until they’ve been formally charged.

The 44-year-old Seattle woman was injured seriously when she was hit by a Toyota sport-utility vehicle at about 6:30 p.m. on the highway, just east of South 129th Street.

She is recovering at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The hospital is not releasing information about her condition at her request.

The victim and the suspect had been walking along the highway, which is also State Route 900, and appeared to be arguing, witnesses told investigators with the Washington State Patrol.

He then pushed the woman onto the road, stood around for a few minutes, then fled, witnesses told the state patrol.

The state patrol had asked for the public’s help in finding the man.

The suspect was arrested at about 9 a.m. Friday in Seattle by state patrol detectives, assisted by state patrol and Seattle police officers.

He was booked into the King County Jail in downtown Seattle at about 10:30 a.m. for investigation of first-degree assault. Bail was denied, according to online jail records.

Trooper Julie Judson, a state patrol spokeswoman, said he was interviewed and that he was cooperative.
