A motorist ran into a Safeway in Renton, breaking some windows and damaging his car, but no one was hurt.

On Aug. 6, at Safeway 2725 NE Sunset Blvd., officers responded to a car striking the business, according to Renton Police Department spokesperson Meeghan Black.

According to Black, when officers arrived, the driver was standing outside his vehicle and told officers he got confused and stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. There were two broken windows and the car was damaged, but no one was injured. Black said it was a mistake and not intentional.

The driver was given a courtesy ride home. He is not facing criminal charges, Black said.

“It’s imperative that any time you get behind the wheel that you give your driving all of your attention. Put down the cellphone, don’t eat, comb your hair or play with the radio,” Black said. “Give your full attention to the driving task to help reduce collisions.”
