Lightning struck a house in Renton, causing a fire and injuring a man late Friday morning.

Lightning struck a house in Renton, causing a fire and injuring a man late Friday morning.The incident occurred around 11:25 a.m. in the 12600 block of Southeast 104th Street.

Fire crews arrived to see a single-family, one-story residence with three sides engulfed by flames and smoke.The 57-year-old man was in the house at the time of the fire.He suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to Valley Medical Center.The man’s pet dog was unharmed and left with neighbors.

Investigators on the scene seem to think lightning was the culprit and struck the house somewhere near the roof area, according Erik Wallgren, deputy fire chief.Eyewitness calls to 911 also conveyed the same scenario with reports of lightning and thunder in the area.Four fire engines, an aid unit, ladder truck, two fire chiefs responded to the fire, which took 30 minutes to contain.

A total of 19 firemen worked to put out the fire, Wallgren said. Skyway, Fire District 20, as well as Bellevue and Eastside stations were a part of the crew. Medic One and Zone 3 Rehab, which offers rehabilitation supplies and support to firefighters, also responded.

Damage is estimated at $100,000.
