Last chance to walk the halls at Sartori School this Saturday

After voter approval in January, the district is converting the school into a kindergarten-through-fifth-grade elementary school with a 650 student capacity.

As homes are being taken down around it to make way for the new school to rise in its wake, the Renton School District is giving Sartori School alumni one last chance to  walk down the hallways to reminisce about the good old days.

The district is inviting former Satori students, parents and staff to take a final walk down memory lane from noon to 4 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, July 16, before the building is razed to make way for the new elementary school.

Sartori School first opened its doors in 1907 as a one-room school house. It was rebuilt into the current school in 1939. The school was named after Dr. Ignacio Sartori who sold the property (and donated other land) to the district to build the school.

After voter approval in January, the district is converting the school into a kindergarten-through-fifth-grade elementary school with a 650 student capacity.

The district is also considering making this school to be a magnet school, which would mean it would have a focused theme or aligned curriculum like fine arts or STEM-based curriculum. If the district does go the magnet school route, students from all across the district will be allowed to apply with priority given to North Renton residents. However, no formal proposition has been presented to the school board yet.

The school is scheduled to open September 2018.
