Juvenile shoplifter possibly coerced into prostitution: At about 4:44 p.m. Aug 20 in the 700 block of Rainier Avenue South, an officer was dispatched to a shoplift in progress. A female juvenile suspect was detained by loss prevention, and they wanted the subject to be trespassed. During questioning of the suspect and later the suspect’s grandparent, the officer suspected that there needed to be a further investigation to determine if the female was being coerced into prostitution or something else by a male she was affiliated with. The officer released the juvenile to her grandparent after she was trespassed from the store, but determined there needs to be further investigation regarding her well-being.
Disorderly conduct at the hospital: At about 10:52 a.m. Aug. 21 in the 3900 block of Talbot Road South, officers were dispatched to a reported disorderly subject call. Multiple employees at the location reported that male subject had pushed another patient and was hitting his own head on a door. The suspect was reported to be autistic and possibly overstimulated. Aid was called to check on the victim. Officers interviewed staff and witnesses, and based on the totality of the circumstances, which included the victim’s statement and injuries, the officers determined that probable cause existed for the crime of fourth-degree assault. The victim is still determining if she would like to press charges, so the case is pending with investigations.
Mushrooms and fentanyl found: At 5:07 p.m. Aug. 22 in the 1100 block of Bronson Way North, while working normal patrol at Liberty Park, an officer located a known warrant subject. A records check confirmed that the subject had a misdemeanor warrant out of Renton for first-degree criminal trespass. As the officer attempted to make contact, the suspect fled, and the officer chased him and detained him until backup officers arrived. During the search incident to arrest, the officer located a gallon-sized plastic bag in his right pants pocket and a container, both containing what were believed to be psychedelic mushrooms and fentanyl. The suspect confirmed these were drugs, and tests later conducted by the officer confirmed this. Probable cause was developed that the suspect committed the crime of obstructing a law enforcement officer by attempting to flee and a crime of knowingly possessing a controlled substance. Case forwarded to prosecutors.
Man filming woman using the restroom: At 4:45 p.m. Aug. 23 in the 1700 block of Maple Valley Highway, officers were dispatched to a sex offense in progress. While en route, dispatch relayed that the victim reported a male filmed her while she was using the bathroom. The male pushed past her as he fled on foot toward Liberty Park. Another officer located the male suspect nearby along the Cedar River trail, where he was taken into custody without incident. A cellphone was also located on the suspect and was seized for a search warrant. There is probable cause to believe the suspect committed the crime of fourth-degree assault by intentionally pushing the victim while fleeing, and the crime of second-degree voyeurism while intentionally filming the intimate area of the victim where they had a reasonable expectation of privacy. The suspect was transported and booked into SCORE jail on the above charges.
Asleep in car under the influence: At 8:46 a.m. Aug. 24 in the 400 block of South Grady Way, an officer was dispatched to a restaurant for a reported welfare check. While en route, dispatch advised that a couple of females were slumped over in a black sedan in the parking lot. Upon arrival, the officer approached the vehicle and saw the women slumped over inside. There was drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, and it appeared that all were under the influence of drugs. Additional officers arrived to assist in making contact. The passenger was awakened, and it was determined she had an active warrant out of Bellevue. She was arrested on the warrant and transferred over to the Bellevue Police Department. The driver was contacted and awakened. The driver’s eyes were droopy, watery and bloodshot. She was sweating excessively and admitted to using fentanyl in the vehicle a couple of hours prior. Aid was called to evaluate her as she could not stand. While trying to identify her, she gave a false name to the officer, then later gave her real name. She was taken to the local hospital for medical clearance, and the officer obtained a warrant for blood tests. The officer established probable cause to arrest the driver for physical control and making a false or misleading statement to a public servant. She was transported and booked into SCORE jail.
