Issaquah teen killed in I-405 collision in Bellevue; Renton woman hurt

A 17-year-old Issaquah boy died at Harborview Medical Center today (Tuesday) following a collision involving a Renton woman on Interstate 405 at about 10:20 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

The three cars involved involved in the collision were northbound on I-405 just north of its interchange with I-90 when the Dodge Neon driven by the teen collided with a Chevy Suburban in the middle lane, according to the state patrol.

The two vehicles then crossed two lanes and collided with a Honda Accord driven by a 46-year-old Renton woman. She suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Suburban, a Mountlake Terrace man, was taken to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.

The vehicles were totaled, according to the state patrol. The drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The accident blocked the right two lanes of the freeway for nearly two hours, causing a backup of several miles on the freeway.

The investigation is continuing, but speed was a factor, according to the state patrol. The teen had made a sudden motion to avoid stopping traffic.
