I-405 weekend closures scheduled for this summer in Renton

The Washington Department of Transportation’s planned closures on I-405 will affect daytime travel over the next few months.

The closures will typically run from late Friday night to early Monday morning as WSDOT crews will be working to install drainage crossings, bridge deck overlays, noise wall panels, tolling infrastructure and lighting as well as complete paving operations, and complete traffic shifts to support the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project.

Closures include:

• July 11-14: Northbound I-405 will be closed from Maple Valley Highway/SR 169 (Exit 4) to Southport Drive (Exit 5).

• July 18-21: Northeast 44th Street (near Exit 7) will be closed east of Lake Washington Boulevard Northeast.

• Aug. 1-4: Southbound I-405 from Southport Drive (Exit 5) to Sunset Blvd/SR 169 (Exit 4) on-ramp.

• Aug. 22-25: Southbound I-405 from Sunset Boulevard (Exit 4) off-ramp to SR 167 (Exit 2) on-ramp.

• Sept. 12-15: Northbound I-405 from Maple Valley Highway/SR 169 (Exit 4) off-ramp to Southport Drive (Exit 5) on-ramp.

These closures do not include night closures that may occur. Detour routes will be posted on the project website, however, WSDOT said for the closure on July 12 and July 13, detour routes cannot accommodate normal I-405 and SR 167 traffic volume, so travelers are advised to “know before you go,” travel during off-peak hours or, if possible, delay discretionary travel to help minimize backups.
