Hundreds participate in service day to remember victims of Sept. 11 terrorist attacks

As a way of honoring and remembering the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organized a Day of Service throughout the Northwest.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11, more than 800 Renton, Newcastle and Skyway residents worked at location sites which had been nominated by partner organizations and selected by LDS Stake President Bruce Taggart.

Volunteers included church members of nearly all ages, neighbors, city employees, and other community members.

Several parks and trails were cleaned including the Black River Trail, Cedar River Trail, May Creek Trail of Newcastle, Cavanaugh Ponds and McGarvey areas, Petrovitsky Park and Skyway Park.

Fences were painted at Hillcrest Terrace. Yard cleaning, painting, and trash hauling was done for several senior homeowners who can no longer take care of their homes.
