Dr. Aaron Heide, a Public Hospital District No. 1 commissioner, has indicated to the commission’s president that he will resign in the coming weeks.

Heide of Kent began his six-year term on the commission in Jan. 1, 2010.

The Renton Reporter attempted to reach Heide via email.

Commission President Dr. Paul Joos told fellow commissioners at their meeting Tuesday that Heide planned to submit his resignation to him in the next couple weeks.

The commission has 90 days to select Heide’s replacement; if it doesn’t meet that deadline, then the decision will be made by the King County Council.

According to Joos, Heide wanted to let Joos know early so the commission could plan for an orderly process to replace him.

Commissioners talked about that process, which would include asking those interested in the elective position to contact the district. Commissioners themselves could submit suggestions.

Joos said he would like to “cast a wide net” for possible candidates, who would fill out a questionnnaire.

The commission would then narrow the field, conduct interviews and select a new commissioner in the at-large district.

“Hopefully, we can get three of us to agree on one,” Joos said.
