Hazen High School’s Class of 2014 tossed their mortarboards into the air Friday afternoon and left the ShoWare center, striding out into the world for the first time as high school graduates.

About 290 student walked across the stage June 13 as their names were called, collecting a diploma from School Board officials and smiling broadly to cheering families and friends in the stands.

The students listened to speeches form classmates Davis Tuazon and Alan Yeh and cheered as principal Randy Taylor listed the Class of 2014’s successes.

There were nearly 850 total Renton School District high school students, who graduated this year on June 13. Graduates completed all 22 credits in language arts, mathematics, the sciences, social studies, career and technical education and electives. In addition, students passed their classroom- and school-based tests, and state tests. They also completed and presented a multi-year culminating project and plan for beyond high school.
