The Hazen High School Baseball team is partnering with Clothes for the Cause to raise funds for an overnight trip to Richland, Wash. in March to play a TriCities team.

The clothing drive is 10 a.m. to noon, Jan. 17, at Hazen, 1101 Hoquiam Ave. NE, Renton. The school will be collecting clothing, shoes, hats, gloves, towels, sheets, blankets, quilts, drapery, purses, belts, rugs and stuffed animals.

Clothes for the Cause accepts clothing and textiles in exchange for cash, while promoting sustainability and charitable acts in the community.

“We are thrilled to be able to help Hazen High Baseball Team in its time of need,” said Joyce Showalter, of Clothes for the Cause. “Clothes for the Cause and Hazen High make it easy for everyone in our community to contribute by collecting things, free of charge, that our friends, family and neighbors already have in their houses.”

Baseball and a lot Hazen’s sports teams are almost completely self-funded these days, according to a press release. Families work in the off-season to raise enough funds to cover all the expenses for the season. The average season will cost the team $13,000 to $15,000 total so there are many different fundraising events to allow all the players and families to be able to contribute to the team, the release stated.

Clothes for the Cause of North Bend regularly works with churches, sports teams, school bands and others to turn their friends and families’ unwanted clothes into cash.

The Hazen Baseball Team won the Seamount Championship in 2011 and 2013 and went to state as the District 3 3A Champions in 2012.
