Five teenagers were arrested Tuesday for burglarizing a house on Talbot Hill in broad daylight after an alert neighbor saw them acting suspiciously.

The neighbor saw the five males, ranging in age from 14 to 18, knock on the door of a home on Talbot Crest Drive in the middle of the day, according to  Renton Police detective Robert Onishi. The teens then walked into the home’s back yard.

Not recognizing the males, and suspecting that the group might break into the house, the neighbor quickly called 911, according to Onishi.

Renton Police officers interrupted the five suspects as they fled the yard, carrying jewelry and a television set. The suspects had used a rock to shatter a sliding-glass door at the back of the house.

They were booked for residential burglary.

Onishi pointed out the importance of calling 911 immediately. Only a few minutes elapsed between the time the neighbor first saw the teens and when they were arrested, he said.

People talk themselves out of calling 911 all the time, he said, giving suspects a chance to escape. In this case, five arrests were made and all the stolen property was recovered, he said.

“Please, call 911 immediately,” he said.

Renton Police urge that people get to know their neighbors, watch for strangers and be alert for unusual behavior.
