The Washington State Department of Health is hosting a twitter chat at 11:30 a.m. today, Wednesday to discuss the latest information on the flu epidemic.

Dr. Maxine Hayes will lead the discussion about whether the flu has peaked in our state or if it is still spreading.

According to the Department of Health, this year’s flu season is more severe than the past two and the data indicates it is spreading to all parts of the state, even as we head to the peak season of February and March.

As of Jan. 30, there have been 28 confirmed flu-related deaths in Washington this season with most of the deaths occurring in patients 65-years-old and older.

The state is still recommending all residents receive a flu vaccine.
