December Teachers of the Month

The Rotary Club of Renton has honored its Teachers of the Month for December.

Ellen Barrett is an ESL teacher at Highlands Elementary School.

She attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., and received a bachelors degree in business management and Spanish.

She then continued at Western Illinois to earn a masters in elementary education with an ESL endorsement. She has also spent time teaching English to students in Ecuador and Spain.

This is Barrett’s sixth year teaching in Renton.

Kilty Keaton is a fourth-grade teacher at Maplewood Heights Elementary.

She earned a bachelors degree in sociology at the University of Puget Sound.

She continued her education at the UPS to earn a masters of arts in teaching with an emphasis in elementary education.

This is Kilty’s third year teaching in the Renton School

District.

Sandy Cato is a language arts teacher at Black River Alternative High School.

Cato attended Western Washington University where she majored in English.

She continued her education to earn two master’s degrees. One is a masters in English literary studies from Eastern Washington University. A second one is a masters in teaching from Seattle University.

Cato has been a teacher in the Renton School District for three years.

As part of the recognition, teachers attend Rotary’s Teacher of the Month luncheon at Maplewood Golf Course. Each teacher receives $200 for classroom supplies or instructional materials.
