Councilmember Carmen Rivera earned a Certificate of Municipal Leadership.
Rivera was recognized at the Aug. 11 Renton City Council meeting for earning a CML from the Association of Washington Cities. The certificate is earned by current mayors and council members who have completed at least 30 hours of training including at least one training in each of the five competency areas: legal, budget, land use, community and leadership.
“I think this is a rare feat that all seven councilmembers have, at minimum, their CML,” Councilmember Ed Prince said. “I think if you look at other cities across the state, you don’t have cities where all of their elected officials have their CML or their advanced CML.”
Rivera was elected to position 2 in Nov. 2021 and is the second youngest woman to be elected to the position.
Rivera is running for reelection this year and is currently leading the primary for her position with 46.58 percent of the votes tallied as of Aug. 12.
