Renton shop, Common Ground Coffee and Cupcakes, has the sweets to extend your Valentine’s Day into the weekend and beyond.

Owner Heng Woon makes about 10 kinds of cupcakes daily, all with buttercream. This week staff served special Valentine’s cupcakes, including Woon’s Red Velvet, Have a Heart and Maple Bacon cupcakes. The Red Velvet Cupcake is made with cream-cheese frosting. The Have a Heart Cupcake is chocolate cake with raspberry frosting and a brownie on top. The Maple Bacon Cupcake is made with bacon cake and maple frosting. Another seasonal cupcake is the Almond Cherry cupcake, made with almond cake and almond cherry frosting.

For the Lunar New Year, Woon created the Lucky Cupcake, made with green tea cake and frosting and a fortune cookie on top.

Common Ground is a popular meeting place for friends, dates and workers looking for wifi or a low-key setting to conduct an informal meeting, said Woon.She finds that a lot of people stop in after work to catch up with others.

Common Ground Coffee and Cupcakes will mark its seventh year in Renton in March. The downtown shop, 900 S. Third St., is open 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Friday; 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday.
