Cold-weather shelter downtown extended to Thursday night

A cold-weather shelter at the Harambee Church in downtown Renton will remain open tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 18, and Thursday night, Jan. 19, due to expected overnight low temperatures and the possibility of snow.

A cold-weather shelter at the Harambee Church in downtown Renton will remain open tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 18, and Thursday night, Jan. 19, due to expected overnight low temperatures and the possibility of snow.

There are separate areas for men, women and families.  The shelter, operated by Catholic Community Services staff and volunteers from Harambee Church and the Renton community, will open at
9 p.m. and close at 7 a.m. both days. This safe, confidential shelter allows walk-ins and food is provided. As with all shelters, rules for the health and safety of all clients, staff and the community apply.

The shelter is in need of backpacks for the guests as most of them carry all of their possessions with them.  New or gently used backpacks may be be donated to Harambee Church at 9 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday night, or can be brought to the Human Services Division, 6th floor, Renton City Hall.
