The city of Renton is using eminent domain to acquire property for a parks maintenance shop and possibly a resource center.
The Renton City Council passed an ordinance to acquire four parcels of land along East Valley Road. The four lots together are approximately 5.9 acres and have an appraised value of $6,864,600, according to the King County Assessor. The address for the properties is near 2960 East Valley Road.
Three of the four parcels are listed as vacant by the King County Assessor, while the other has a listed use of “warehouse.” Stacey Holdings LLC is listed as the owner on the parcel viewer website.
At a public hearing on Dec. 1, Renton Economic Development Director Amanda Free said the property is currently occupied by Compton Lumber and has an office building, a shop building, paved parking and driveway, security fences and an outside storage location. She said the vacant land has also been previously prepared for future development.
Free said the council had previously approved the purchase and sales agreement on June 23, 2025, but the property owner was unable to fulfill the agreement obligations. She said the owner has since requested the city pursue eminent domain to close on the property.
The ordinance states the compensation to be paid to the owner of the properties will be from the city’s general fund or “other monies that the city may have available or attain for the acquisition.”
