City of Renton to hold special Memorial Day event for veterans

The City of Renton is hosting a special Memorial Day event Monday to honor veterans who have served at home and abroad and especially for those who have fallen in the line of duty.

The City of Renton is hosting a special Memorial Day event Monday to honor veterans who have served at home and abroad and especially for those who have fallen in the line of duty.

The event is 1 p.m. Monday, May 28, at Veterans Memorial Park, 523 S. Third Street, in downtown Renton.

The program includes an invocation by the local chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, presentation of Colors and the singing of the National Anthem.  Wreaths will be presented at the memorial, honoring the five branches of military service. A ceremonial honor guard, playing of Taps, and singing of a patriotic song will conclude the ceremony.

Those participating include City Council President Rich Zwicker, retired Marines Colonel Bruce F. Meyers, Frank R. Vaise, VFW Post No. 1263, Fred Hancock American Legion Post No. 19, and Bruce Feltmann, VFW chaplain.

Parking is available at the 200 Mill building. Renton History Museum will also be open noon to 3 p.m.
