Chamber raises about $50,000 at annual auction

Thursday’s annual Renton Chamber of Commerce Holiday Auction was a success, said Chamber President Bill Taylor, even if the money raised is unlikely to top last year’s total.

Thursday’s annual Renton Chamber of Commerce Holiday Auction was a success, said Chamber President Bill Taylor, even if the money raised is unlikely to top last year’s total.

Taylor estimates “Some Enchanted Evening,” at the Spirit of Washington Event Center Thursday, brought in about $50,000. Last year’s auction raised $56,000.

“I think it was a success, especially with the state of the economy,” Taylor said.

He said auctioneer John Curley got “every dollar available in the room.”

Taylor said about 225 people attended the auction, the chamber’s largest fundraiser.

That estimated $50,000 will benefit the chamber. An additional $7,400 was raised Thursday evening during a paddle auction for Talbot Hill Elementary’s MicroSociety Program.
