Heavy rains and snowmelt are sending Western Washington rivers to flood stage, although the Cedar River at Renton is only at a provisional Phase 1, meaning flooding is unlikely, according to King County.

At 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, the flow in downtown Renton was measured at 2,530 cubic feet per second. Flooding can occur in the Jones Road area near 156th Place Southeast when the flow reaches about 2,800 cfs and a Stage 2 flood alert is issued.

Moderate flooding occurs at 4,200 cfs on the Cedar.

A flood warning remains in affect for the Green River in Auburn. The river is flowing at about 9,000 cfs, which can mean moderate flooding upriver from Auburn.

Rain is in the forecast for Renton through the weekend.
