A man died while driving on the Maple Valley Highway during rush hour traffic Jan. 14.
The white van crossed two lanes of oncoming traffic and miraculously didn’t hit anyone, said David Leibman, a commander at the Renton Police Department.
“Somehow during rush hour it didn’t hurt anyone,” he said.
The man in his late 40s appeared to have died from natural causes.
The white van came to a stop on the shoulder of the road, resting against a guardrail on the sidewalk.
Someone called it in as a parking complaint. Police arrived to find the man slumped over with his head on the passenger seat.
“Somebody must have seen it, but nobody called it in,” Leibman said. “Amazing.”
The van wasn’t heavily damaged.
Victim shot twice
A 17-year-old was shot twice in the leg after a party ended with a gun fight Jan. 15.
The victim got caught in the crossfire and didn’t know who shot him or even if it was intended, said David Leibman, a commander at the Renton Police Department. “He didn’t get a good description of the shooters.”
Shots were reported in the area of Renton High School, but the party was on the 300 block of South Tobin Street.
Police didn’t find out someone was shot until the victim went to the Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Two shots heard
Police responded to multiple reports of gunshots on the 11200 block of Southeast 175th Way Jan. 16.
Police didn’t find a victim or a suspect.
“Several callers heard a verbal argument followed by two gunshots,” said David Leibman, a commander at the Renton Police Department.
Police found a car with a new bullet hole and two .45-caliber shell casings outside, according to a police report.
There was also some fresh blood on a car at the scene.
The following information was compiled from City of Renton police report.
Hot boxing teens
Six teenagers were found smoking marijuana in the cab of a red pickup truck on the 600 block of South 1st Street.
The cab was so filled with smoke, police couldn’t see how many people were inside the car until they opened the doors Jan. 18.
The two teens possessing marijuana were arrested. They had about 7 grams of marijuana combined.
One of the suspects also had a butterfly knife, which is classified as a dangerous weapon.
All of the occupants appeared high with bloodshot and watery eyes.
The four remaining teens were taken home.
