Bail has been set at $1 million for a 34-year-old Tacoma man suspected in the shooting death of a 27-year-old man near Lake Desire.
Investigators are still searching for other suspects in the shooting and the PT Cruiser used to flee the scene.
The Renton Reporter is not naming the suspect because he hasn’t yet been charged, which is expected Wednesday. He was arrested for investigation of second-degree murder.
He’ll appear in court at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The victim, Ryan Prince, died of multiple gunshot wounds Feb. 17 when he interrupted a burglary at his home at about 10 p.m. on East Lake Desire Drive, according to probable-cause documents. He was confronted by several individuals who fired guns at him numerous times. He died at the scene.
The residents of the home are owners/operators of The Solution, a medical-marijuana business.
Investigators found a damaged set of Burberry-brand prescription eyeglasses on the porch of the house. They determined the suspects arrived in a 2001 PT Cruiser, with Washington license plates AKY8871.
The car’s registration led investigators to a woman in Tacoma, who told them the car belongs to the father of her child – the suspect. They also learned the suspect owned a pair of Burberry glasses just like those found at the murder scene.
He hadn’t worn the glasses after Feb. 17, according to court documents.
The suspect also had stopped driving the PT Cruiser and had hidden it in an unknown location, according to documents. Investigators are still trying to locate it.
The suspect, a student at a technical college in the Tacoma area, was arrested by King County Sheriff’s deputies at about 6 p.m. Sunday in Tacoma. He had about $5,500 in cash.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the PT Cruiser or the crime call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311 or call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
