Renton residents can enjoy a public fireworks display at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, but will not be allowed to personally discharge fireworks.

Since 2005, there has been a total ban on the use, sale and possession of any fireworks within the city limits of Renton, including on the 4th of July.

“Fireworks have been the cause of many fires and tragedies,” said Mark Peterson, Fire Chief/Emergency Services Administrator.  “The fireworks ban is another way we can help protect citizens and their property.”

In 2010 there were 46 fireworks related calls that resulted in losses totaling just under $1000 in the city and one injury was reported.  Violators are subject to both criminal and civil citations, confiscation of fireworks and possible fines of $100 to $500. Additionally, the sale, possession, and use of explosive devices such as M-80’s, M-100’s, and homemade or modified fireworks are a felony offense, and violators will face criminal prosecution. Renton’s public fireworks display on Monday, July 4, at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, 1201 Lake Washington Blvd., features a variety of activities for kids, exciting stage entertainment, has restaurants and concession stands with food, and ends with a 20-minute fireworks display at 10:00 p.m.
