Angry neighbor with machete | Renton Police Blotter

The following information was compiled from Renton Police Department incident reports.

On March 27, a man was driving near Southeast 180th Street when he stopped to talk with a friend. He noticed a white van pass him and the driver yelling something at him. The van stopped ahead and the driver, who the victim identified as his former neighbor, started yelling at the victim again.

The victim drove away toward 116 Avenue Southeast and the suspect continued to follow him. At a stoplight, the suspect got out of his van and approached the victim’s vehicle, and started to slap and punch the window of the front passenger side while yelling at the victim. The victim ran the red light and continued northbound on 116th Avenue Southeast.

He then parked his car in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven. The suspect had followed him there, got out of his van and approached him with a machete in hand. He swung the machete at the victim’s half-opened front window, damaging the window. The victim put his hand over his head and bent over at first, then immediately drove away, heading southbound on 116 Avenue Southeast and parking at King’s Transmission near Southeast Petrovitsky Road where he called 911. The suspect continued to follow him but kept going southbound on 116 Avenue Southeast.

Police managed to catch the suspect, who admitted to following the victim and banging on his door. But he doesn’t “recall” anyone having a machete. When asked about how the victim’s car was damaged, the suspect said he might have had metal in the sleeves of his jacket that that’s what could have caused the damage.

The suspect was charged with second-degree assault and was transported to King County Jail.
