Alajawan Brown Foundation collecting school supplies for annual backpack drive

This year, local Wendy’s restaurants have joined the drive as collection points for donations.

Alajawan’s Hands, a local foundation named for Alajawan Brown, a 12-year-old who was shot to death in 2010 while in a 7-11 parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Way is once again collecting and distributing backpacks and school supplies.

This year, the Foundation hopes to serve a minimum of 1,000 children. Drop your donations off at Renton Wal-Mart, 743 Rainier Ave. S.from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19-20.

The actual school-supply distribution is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the King County Fire District 20 training facility, 12424 76th Ave. S. Seattle (Skyway). The giveaway is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. All children who need a backpack must be present to receive one.

This year, local Wendy’s restaurants have joined the drive as collection points for donations. Anyone who misses one of our collection drives can drop off donations off at any local Wendy’s through Sunday, Aug. 21.
