Advisory group discusses I-405/SR 167 corridor congestion Wednesday

The public meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m., April 12 at Bellevue City Hall.

Persons who are interested in what comes next for the Interstate 405/State Route 167 corridor are invited to a public meeting on Wednesday, April 12. Elected officials and transportation agency representatives will discuss future priorities for transit, highway and bicycle/pedestrian improvements within the corridor.

At the next meeting of the I-405/SR 167 Executive Advisory Group, representatives from Sound Transit, Washington State Department of Transportation and King County will provide updates on funded projects and potential future next steps for the I-405 Master Plan.

“WSDOT and our partners are committed to providing transportation choices in the face of congestion,” said Secretary of Transportation Roger Millar, who serves as chair of the group. “We will continue to move forward with improvements, including expansion of our highway infrastructure, bus service and bicycle-pedestrian trail system to serve Eastside commuters and residents.”

WSDOT representatives will present the latest information on projects funded by last year’s Connecting Washington transportation package, including the I-405 Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes project and I-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector, as well as potential phased improvements for the congested section of I-405 north of State Route 522. They will also review performance data for the express toll lanes between Bellevue and Lynnwood and provide an update on the I-405 northbound peak-use shoulder lane under construction between SR 527 and I-5.

Sound Transit and King County representatives will deliver presentations about next steps for the planned I-405 Bus Rapid Transit system and the Eastside Rail Corridor Regional Trail.
