An estimated $22,000 was raised in Renton’s CROP Hunger Walk 2011 last Sunday.
Despite the wet weather young and old community members turned out to raise money that will help feed the hungry in Renton and aid disaster relief around the world.
Locally the money this year will go toward the Salvation Army Renton Food Bank, the Friendly Kitchen, ARISE (Area of Renton Interfaith Shelter Endeavor) and Margie Williams Helping Hands.
About 260 people participated in the walk that headed east along the Cedar River Trail to Ron Regis Park and then returned to the starting point.
Churches, scouts, schools, clubs and businesses took part in the walk.
The event was sponsored by the Renton Ecumenical Association of Churches or REACH.
