A message on Fireworks in Skyway from Fire District 20

Legal Fireworks can be discharged only on the Fourth of July from 9 a.m. to midnight in Skyway, but are still illegal in Renton city limits.

Legal Fireworks can be discharged only on the Fourth of July from 9 a.m. to midnight.

There are some areas of the West Hill where fireworks are prohibited, these include:

• Any Renton School District property including the schools and maintenance center. The road in front of Dimmitt Middle School is closed to parking vehicles to prevent the discharge of fireworks. Concern for fireworks debris landing on either side is of concern.

• Under the BPA power lines. If a large enough firework were to hit one and damage these high powered lines,  you are at risk of injury not to mention the lack of power going into Seattle. This also goes for the local power lines.

• Parking lots to businesses are also prohibited since this is private property.

The Fire District will secure the parking lot to the north of the Skyway station to prevent large gatherings and accessibility for our vehicles.

Please call 911 if you SEE fireworks being used in a dangerous way. If you only hear fireworks please do not call 911. Our 911 centers experience at times three or four times the call volume. Without additional information the call is tagged a low priority.

Have a safe Fourth of July.  Information on fire district calls on July 4 will be posted to the Facebook and Twitter accounts of Skyway Fire.

The lighting of all Fireworks is illegal within Renton city limits.
