$30,000 in grants awarded at Circle of Giving event

More than $30,000 was awarded to community members on Wednesday night as part of the Renton Community Foundation’s “Circle of Giving Awards” celebration.

About 150 people attended the event that gives away grants to different community organizations and members. The 2011 “Circle of Giving” recommendations totaled more than $25,000. Of that amount, the Renton School District was awarded $8,000. The money will be used by teachers across the district to buy supplies and instruments for various school projects.

The Next Curve recommendations total $8,000, with the largest grant from that, $1,500, going to Communities in Schools of Renton. A touching moment during the celebration was when 13-year-old Kasey Winter was recognized for being an example of the next generation of Renton donors.

Winter has cut her hair for Locks of Love in the past and routinely asks for cash on her birthday to donate to different causes.
