Two Weddings and a Funeral

“Two Weddings and a Funeral” screens at 1 p.m., Monday, May 27, at the Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center, 400 S. Second St., in downtown Renton. Tickets are available at online at siff.net.

Here’s the film’s description from the Seattle International Film Festival.

Min-soo (Kim Dong-yun) is a well-respected obstetrician who has figured out a way to conceal his homosexuality by marrying a lesbian colleague named Hyo-jin (Ryoo Hyoun-kyoun). With the marriage in place, everything seems figured out for the conspiring duo. If it isn’t enough that coworkers at the hospital seem fooled by the charade, the marriage registration will finally make it possible for Hyo-jin and her lover, Seo-young (Jung Ae-youn) to adopt a child. Min-soo faces some adjustment as he clumsily reconstructs his apartment to fool his parents, but the real challenge comes when Min-soo finds love and discovers the difficulty in sweeping two secret lovers under the rug of holy matrimony. Buckling under societal pressure to be someone else, Min-soo’s relationships with his wife and lover come to a crossroads. He must now face himself and navigate what is best for his livelihood and the community he keeps secret. Featuring a vibrant gang of similarly gay-identifying characters who counsel and critique Min-soo through his decisions, this jaunty romantic comedy is sure to entertain and offer a touching look on what it means to face one’s self and one’s culture. Director: Kimjho Gwan-soo, Gwan-soo. Cast: Kim Dong-yun, Ryoo Hyoun-kyoun, Song Yong-jin, Jung Ae-youn. South Korea 2012 (108 minutes)
