See salmon swim at several Renton sites this fall

Every year, the Pacific salmon migrate along local rivers for spawning, and with the fall weather comes the annual salmon viewing along Renton’s Cedar River.

A tradition that goes back decades, this year’s “Salmon SEEson” has many opportunities for the public to properly view the region’s various salmon species as they become more visible in the river.

The Cedar River Salmon Journey program will have three different locations throughout the month where trained naturalists can help the public spot the salmon and answer questions about their lives and journeys.

The three locations will be at the Renton Library from Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 11, Cedar River Park from Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 11-12, and then at Riverview Park on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Along with the viewing locations, Renton Parks and Recreation is presenting the Environmental Science Center’s second annual Cedar River Salmon Festival from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 11 at Liberty Park. There will also be an Oct. 25 Halloween-inspired event at Liberty Park called Fish or Treat where local kids are encouraged to dress up and experience some “spooky science” starting at 10 a.m.
