Renton Tech student chosen as Pierce Scholar

Mohamed Abdullahi was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

It was announced April 7 that Mohamed Abdullahi, a computer science student at Renton TechnicalCollege, was selected as the 2017 Pierce Scholar.

He was awarded a $1,000 scholarship and invited to speak at this year’s Phi Theta Kappa’s PresidentsBreakfast at the annual convention in New Orleans.

He was born in 1993 and immigrated to the United States with his mother from Kenya. He is a studentleader in the RTC Associated Student Government and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa academic honorssociety.

According to a news release, Abdullahi entered RTC after graduating from high school and spends hisevenings working a security guard and a tutor.
