Renton retiree has winning Lotto ticket worth $6.3 million

A lucky dog lives in Renton and he’s $6.3 million richer.

W.B. Washington, who is retired, has won that multimillion-dollar prize in the Washington State Lottery.

Speaking through lottery officials, Washington said he plans to continue living a modest lifestyle, but he wants to buy a house. Plus, he wants to help some good friends who took him in for four years without charging rent.

Washington discovered he was the multimillion-dollar winner after a friend asked him, “Did you know that some lucky dog won that lottery.” He decided to check the Lotto tickets he bought earlier in the week.

“That lucky dog could be me,” he told the friend.

The last one he checked at Safeway turned out to be the winner.

He had purchased the tickets from Sunny’s Deli Mart at 10545 S.E. Carr Road. When told the store would receive a $63,000 selling bonus, he said “Oh my God! Those people are blessed.”

In telling his story to lottery officials, he said, laughing, “I went from the outhouse to the penthouse! I was in the penthouse and didn’t even know it for three or four days.”

Since he was already at the store, he went shopping before heading home.

“I was actually numb,” he sai. “I didn’t act really happy, I didn’t act surprised, I just acted … normal.”

Now he’s looking forward to becoming a homeowner again and fixing up his mother’s house, or maybe not. “I’ll just buy her another one – whichever she wants.”
