Ren-Con and Truck or Treat Spooktacular on its way | ENTERTAINMENT CALENDAR

This month in entertainment: Cuban folko-jazz music, Hawaiian music, Ren-Con and some Halloween fun.

The Zodiacal Zoo

The Fuzzy Monkeys are a troupe focused on the fun of dance, the magic of the music, and good times with good people. Since it’s the Chinese zodiac year of the monkey, the troupe will be performing an aptly-themed performance. All Fuzzy Monkey proceeds will be donated to support Woodland Park Zoo’s Primates. Tickets are $15.

Catch the Zodiacal Zoo 8 p.m., Oct. 7-8 at Renton Civic Theater, 507 S. Third St.

Los Hermanos Arango

Los Hermanos Arango hail from Guanabacoa, a municipality in Cuba characterized by a high level of musical and afro-religious tradition. The group was created in 2003 by world-renown bassist Feliciano Arango, a founding member NG La Banda, one of the most celebrated dance bands in Cuba, and played with them for over 16 years.

The group will perform 8 p.m., Oct. 15 at Carco Theater, 1717 Maple Valley Hwy.

Na Mele O Ku’u Tutu (The Songs of My Grandmother)

The Manuiki Foundation is sponsoring Na Mele O Ku’u Tutu (The Songs of My Grandmother), a tribute to Aunty Genoa Keawe, an icon in Hawaiian music. Enjoy her Ohana’s Legacy of Hawaiian Music with her son Eric Keawe, his daughter, Pomaikai Lyman and her daughter Malie Lyman.

The show begins 5 p.m., Oct. 16 at Carco Theater, 1717 Maple Valley Hwy. Doors open at 4 p.m.

Renton City Comic Con

This year is the dawn of Renton City Comic Con (“Ren Con” for short), the local version of ever-popular comic book convention that seeks to celebrate everything comic books, films, art, video games, technology and more held by the chamber.

Ren Con will be Oct. 28-30 at the Red Lion Hotel, 1 S. Grady Way.

Truck or Treat Spooktacular

Girls and boys ages 10 and under will enjoy this spooktacular evening with a variety of vehicles like the Stoneway Concrete Cement Mixer, The Seafair Clowns bus, an Antique Fire truck, Police Units, city’s Public Works trucks and more.

New this year strolling characters will be available for great photo opportunities. This is sure to be a horn honking, clowning around great time! Registration is required and will cost $8 for all kids.

Truck or Treat will start 6 p.m., Oct. 21 at Renton Community Center, 1715 Maple Valley Hwy.
