Museum of Flight in Tukwila to tell Rosie’s story through music

“Rosie the Riveter,” the musical, is coming to the Museum of Flight in Tukwila for a special performance at 2 p.m., April 23.

An original musical by the 5th Avenue Theater’s Adventure Musical Theatre Touring Company, “Rosie the Riveter” tells the story of the women who built the airplanes that helped win World War II and takes place in a Boeing plant. One of the plants where they worked was in Renton.

Northwest writers and composers created the musical that is appropriate for children in grades 1 through 8. But, former “Rosies” as well as students who have seen the performance have given it high praise.

“We have been getting a lot of letters back from students and women who were involved in the war supplies and munitions efforts,” said Orlando Moreales, education programs coordinator for Adventure Musical Theatre.

Writers did extensive research to develop the script that is based on real stories and historical events, he said.

The production features songs, dance and stories. “Rosie the Riveter” has been on tour locally since February this year.

“Shows are shaped by educator feedback and past input of teachers and parents has been important in guiding how we develop our Adventure Musical Theatre productions,” Moreales said.

The AMT has been bringing their unique form of education and entertainment to schools since 1994.

They have performed for over 450,000 kindergarten and elementary students in Washington state.
