Ice rink offers free admission during heat wave

Beat the heat; hit the ice.

In response to record-high temperatures, Renton’s ice rink, Castle Ice, is offering free ice-skating admissions.

“You just have to pay to rent skates, if you need them,” said general manager Jamie Huscroft. Skate rentals are $3.

With a lobby around 60 degrees, it’s also open to those who just want to sit and cool off.

“It’s so refreshing,” Huscroft said, adding there’s a cafe in the lobby.

Meteorologists are forecasting highs of 98 for Tuesday and 101 for Wednesday. The ice rink is offering free admissions both days.

“We’re not busy anyway,” Huscroft said. “It was just so darn hot outside.”

Skating is also a safer alternative for those wanting to exercise.

“It’s just a good, simple way to get some families in here,” Huscroft said. “We just want to get kids out of the heat.”
