Cedar River Trail should be open to pedestrians only

The Cedar River Trail should not be open to bicycles. It is to narrow with a varied mix of pedestrians. From elderly to joggers, many seniors such as myself who may not hear a command “on your left” until the cyclist is already beside me. There are children side by side riding and at times groups of teens, as well as homeless drinking groups. There are the many dog walkers, also. I believe this trail was not designed for any purpose other than pedestrian traffic. It has no railings and should have; you can end up in the river all too easy.

In the winter months and the floods come, the trail is necessarily closed. When that happens, seniors are walking on the street above and that street is too narrow for two-way traffic with pedestrians that some can not hear well. We may have more deaths and accidents. Many bicycles already use the surface streets from the senior center to the barber shop parking lot.

I have operated my Gallery Barber shop there for 15 years and found the location by jogging this trail. I have used it for cycling in recent years and know full well that this should be closed to bicycles.
