A big thanks to Linda Knight

Everyone seems to want smaller government with laser -ike service from government. Well I feel a public note of appreciation is due for Linda Knight, solid waste manager for the City of Renton. With all of the odds against them, record storms, floods, snow fall, etc., the City of Renton has managed to implement a new, forward-looking solid waste disposal program.

Linda Knight, who I certainly would not want to trade places with over the last six weeks, has been at the helm of this transition. It has not been a flawless implementation and per Linda there have been a lot of lessons learned. Some of us did not receive what we needed, bins, materials, etc. However, Linda Knight with the support of one staff person, and recently a temporary helper, deserve a big thank you. She faced hundreds of angry callers and emailers head on. I just wanted to put a different slant on the solid waste transition – an example of LEAN, efficient government.
