Valley Med recognized nationally for budget

Valley Medical Center has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from a national team of independent reviewers.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) presented the award for the medical center’s 2011 fiscal period budget.

To receive the award, Valley Medical had to satisfy or surpass nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, according to a press release. The guidelines test how well an institution’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

“This prestigious award by the GFOA is testament to the hard work and diligence of our finance team,” said Rich Roodman, Valley Medical Center CEO.” I hope the people who live in our district feel confident that their tax dollars are being managed wisely.

For nine years, the medical center’s financial and management team has had perfectly clean audits from the State Auditor’s Office as well as the independent accountants, Moss Adams.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.

Valley Medical Center is the only public hospital on the West Coast to have received this award.
