Renton-based air carrier to offer direct flights to San Juan Islands

This new, scheduled service is the only available one of its kind that is south of downtown Seattle.

For the first time in 13 years, Northwest Seaplanes, a private air service operating in the Pacific Northwest, will offer direct seaplane service to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island from the Renton Municipal Airport. This new, scheduled service is the only available one of its kind that is south of downtown Seattle.

“The traveling public now has another great option for getting back and forth to San Juan Island,” Shane Carlson, of Northwest Seaplanes said in a press release. “The San Juan Islands are the gem of Washington State, but they’re so difficult to get to and from, especially since the new reservation requirements have come into play with the Washington State Ferries.”

The new, scheduled non-stop service from Renton to Friday Harbor is operated by Northwest’s parent company West Isle Air, a US Department of Transportation (USDOT) approved Commuter Air Carrier that also operates Chelan Seaplanes. Chelan provides scheduled flights to and from downtown Chelan and Stehekin, two scenic resort destinations in Washington State.

Northwest Seaplanes, founded in 1988, is part of a family owned business with a passion for flying and a deep love of the Pacific Northwest. Collectively the companies have more than 40 years of experience providing seaplane service throughout the area.

Currently Northwest Seaplanes has a fleet of four six-passenger Dehavilland Beavers and can accommodate transportation needs for groups of all sizes. The aircraft have access to hundreds of destinations throughout Western Washington and British Columbia that are only reachable by seaplane. The company offers scheduled seaplane flights, exclusive seaplane charter flights, and Seattle tours by seaplane.

Northwest Seaplanes is headquartered on the Renton Airport and Chelan Seaplanes is located on beautiful Lake Chelan.
