Empowered Recreation, a new comprehensive health and fitness studio in Renton, is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony and charity boot camp Feb. 15.

Renton Mayor Denis Law will cut the ribbon at 3:30 at the studio, 265 S.W. 41st St., Renton.

Empowered Recreation also will offer a boot camp that day, which is free but optional donations would go to the Boys and Girls Club of Renton. The boot camp is for beginners to more advances participants.

Renton Fire Station 14 will do free blood-pressure and blood-glucose checks as part of the city’s February Heart Month campaign.

The camp will include a proper warm-up consisting of floor exercises, three “team” circuits that are 10 minutes long, finished with a “special challenge” for the entire group.

Protein shakes and bars will be provided following the boot camp.

Empowered Recreation opened in November with a mission to empower people with programs and coaching that enhance the individual’s ability to re-create themselves as healthy, active citizens for the benefit of everyone. “We want to teach people how to enjoy life to the fullest and not just watch others from the sidelines or couch,” said Kenneth Mack, owner.
