A Bothell man used a small sledge hammer to express his road rage early Tuesday morning on State Route 167 in Renton.
He was southbound on the freeway near Interstate 405 when the GMC mini-van he was driving collided with a Nissan 300ZX in front of him at about 6:40 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.
When troopers arrived, the Nissan driver, a 33-year-old Renton man, was rubbing his left shoulder, telling troopers the mini-van’s driver had hit him with a small sledge hammer, according to the patrol press release.
Just minutes earlier, both drivers had pulled onto the right shoulder after the Nissan was hit from behind, according to the state patrol.
The Nissan driver told troopers the mini-van driver made a lane change that forced him off the road. A few moments later the driver of the Nissan moved in front of the mini-van and slammed on his car’s breaks, according to the state patrol.
The two drivers argued. The GMC driver told troopers he hit the Renton man with the sledge hammer because he refused to move from his van’s doorway, according to the press release.
The driver of the minivan was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault. The Nissan driver was cited for negligent driving for his part in the road rage, according to the state patrol.
