The Renton boys soccer team is tied with Evergreen for sixth place in the Seamount, third among 2A teams.

The Indians (1-6-1, 1-5-1) are making positive strides with a young group. The team has two seniors, three juniors, seven sophomores and five freshman.

“There’s been a lot of enthusiasm,” said Renton coach Andrea Anderson. “They’ve done really well in practice and we’re just trying to translate that to game day.”

The team’s leader is junior defender Uriel Gonzalez.

“He’s definitely the anchor of the team,” Anderson said. “He’s strong, he’s skilled and he’s a leader.”

Gonzalez, a club player, has not come out for the Indians team before.

Anderson said offense is the team’s major aspect to improve. After losing standout goalkeeper Alexis Quintana midseason, she’s had to shift positions to allow the team to defend better. That’s hurt on the offensive side.

Renton’s only goal of the season came March 20 in a 1-0 win against Lindbergh.

“Every day I’m seeing improvement,” Anderson said. “I just want to keep moving forward.”

Renton faced Tyee Wednesday evening. The Indians finish the regular season against Evergreen (away, April 27, 7:30 p.m.), Foster (away, May 1, 7:30 p.m.) and Evergreen (home, May 3, 5:30 p.m.).
