Liberty Patriots girls soccer win 2A state title

This win came after last season’s championship game where the Patriots lost 3-2 to Columbia River.

In a game of redemption, the Liberty Patriots girls soccer team won the 2A state title Nov. 18.

Liberty beat Columbia River 3-0 at Shoreline Stadium.

Scoring two goals in the championship game was Makena Carr and a third goal was scored by Nikayla Copenhaver.

Reese Tappan had two assists and Chole Winn assisted with one goal.

To get to the final round, Liberty, beat West Valley (Spokane) 6-2 in the semifinals Friday.

Copenhaver, Carr and Winn each had a goal in the semifinal game. Jillian Haffner had two goals and Ali Gouge also scored a goal for the Patriots.

Winn, Carr and Haffner all assisted Friday with a goal and Copenhaver had two assists. Savannah Miles also assisted with a goal Friday.

Aside from a 1-1 tie with Mercer Island Oct. 5, the Patriots ended the season with a 13 game win streak.

Liberty’s last loss was Sept. 26 to Lake Washington.

The girls finish the season with a 19-2-1 overall record.
